Rich Simms CIS 164 Project Proposal

Goal

The goal of this project is to setup Tomcat, compile a Java servlet, and then publish an HTML page, a Java Server Page (JSP) and the compiled Java Servlet page. Tomcat is an open-source server run-time environment for Java. It also includes web server functionality.

Resources Required

• Latest Tomcat source code, version 6.0.14
• Linux Development Tools (to compile and make Tomcat)
• Latest JDK RPM from Sun, version 1.6.0_03
• One custom HTML web page
• One custom JSP page
• One custom Servlet page (class)

Limitations

Linux server only. Web and application pages will be only at the "Hello World" level of complexity.
